Uganda Golf Club’s (UGC) John Musimenta and Mehta Golf Club’s Loyce Bako were the top players for the second year running as the annual Juniors Holiday Golf tournament ended at Kitante on Friday.
Musimenta and Bako returned 77 and 90 gross, one and six strokes more than they carded last year respectively, to beat a strong field of youngsters from Entebbe, UGC, Lugazi and Jinja Clubs. The one-day, Uganda Ladies Golf Union organised tournament, followed a one-month golf holiday clinic at the Uganda Golf Club that run concurrently with others at the various clubs.
Works and transport minister Monica Ntege who is an ardent golfer and was chief guest advised the youngsters not to give up on the sport and advised the parents to continue supporting their children with the sport.
“Golf is an exciting game which you can play by yourself and against yourself. It can also help you shape your mannerism, so never give up even after a bad round,” Ntege advised.
Members of Parliament John Byabagambi and Evelyn Asiimwe, Golf Safari's Aggrey Mwesigwa, Lady Captain Mary Ocheng and ULGU’s Katy Kabenge also encouraged the kids to carry on with the sport.
Entebbe Club’s Raymond Akope and Victory Kizza (UGC | Tukutana) were the best players over 9 holes while Daniel Tumwebaze and Isabella Akite of UGC carded the best scores over the six-hole competition, with Joel Baluku (EBB) and Hope Katusiime (UGC | Tukutana) topping the three-hole competition.
The skills test that involves competition in putting, swinging, driving the ball and etiquette was won by Pius Atosi and Daniela Mukisa on 13 and 11 points respectively in the boys and girls categories.
